Rodeo Houston: Ready to Rodeo

Well, it’s here…Rodeo Houston 2017 officially begins March 7th, but the BBQ cookoff is this weekend. This is my favorite time of year in my city because I get to see so many friends I don’t see throughout the year, my committee hosts 20+ contests of almost 9,000 4-H, FFA and Intercollegiate students and there’s of course great food, parties, music & rodeo action!

Leading up to Rodeo I’ve been to a few fundraiser events, meetings and such, so here’s what I’ve worn for a couple of those events.
If you remember, I previewed this skirt (click here) that I got in December from The Rollin J boutique (https://therollinj.com/) and had plans for an event to wear it to…
….which was for one of my Rodeo Committee fundraisers.
Paired it with my own, now vintage, FFA jacket and a silk sleeveless ruffled blouse that is also several years old. The best part of this outfit was how many great conversations I had with my fellow committeemen about their jackets and memories of FFA. The purpose of our fundraiser is to raise money to support our contests, which includes feeding all of our participants during their contest and providing great awards. Remembering back to FFA days and how much my involvement shaped me to this day is great reminder of why I volunteer on rodeo committees.
These pants were also a preview in December (click here) that I planned for another rodeo event…..
…if you follow me on Instagram, this was sneak peek of the details….
….and here’s the full outfit!
I got these pants from Wildbleu (http://shopwildbleu.com/) and I got so many kind complements on them!  As a sizing tip, I’m 5’9″ and I have on about 4″ heels in these pics, and the inseam is 37″.  I plan to wear these another night out during Rodeo too! The vest is years old from the Target x Neiman Marcus collaboration, blouse is the greatest black top you could ever own, it’s this one by Lush from Nordstrom.  Necklace I picked up in Vegas from Catillac Style (http://cattilacstyle.com/) and earrings are from LaVida Loca (https://www.thelavidaloca.com/), also picked up in Vegas during National Finals Rodeo.
During the Trailblazer Luncheon, I learned about an organization, Aspire Accessories, who provides transitional learning opportunity for various special needs individuals to obtain transferable job skills. We received these handmade cheetah leather wrap bracelets at our place setting, and then I visited their booth after the luncheon. Their pieces were all so unique. I picked up this necklace that can be wrapped once or several times and it has a really pretty quartz piece that an iPhone picture doesn’t adequately show. I love shopping with a purpose and definitely will keep my eye on Aspire Accessories. You can visit their website here: http://www.aspireaccessories.com/.
Sunday night was the Rodeo Best Bites event featuring championship wines and small bites competition with 100+ restaurants showcasing small bites of their best dishes in various categories. This event is a feast!  I knew I wanted to be comfortable, hello walking and eating, and this dress was perfect.  It’s actually one I picked up at home shopping with my Mom one day, for I believe $11 or $12 off the Target clearance rack. The multi-strand pearls are a steal from Walmart several years ago, the long looped pearls are a years old boutique find and the bone cross & earrings were also from LaVida Loca in Vegas. Fringe bag is Montana Silversmiths from several years ago and boots are Dolce Vita, found at TJ Maxx back in the fall (similar).
Stay tuned for more what I wore #rodeofashion during March!!
