#write31days | October 20

A week ago I found something I thought I’d lost. Nothing super significant, more than anything just frustrated with myself I’d lost it.  When I found it you would have thought I found something really significant that was lost. In reality, it was just a little thing. But, it was found.

Little things.

They matter.

I think we get caught chasing what seems like significant moments in life. Oftentimes lost in comparison against what everyone else is doing. Checking off how are we doing on our big bucket list. Hoping we tell a big enough story to impress someone with our big things.

But life really happens in the little things.

What seems so minor that really means so much.

And, when you’re known, others know the little things that matter to you.

And, when you know others, you know the little things that matter to them.

The thing that you can do to help without being asked. The thing that cheers them up. The thing that makes a difference to them, but wouldn’t to anyone else. The thing that they will remember you for because it was significant to them. And, the same goes for when someone does the little thing that turns out to be significant for us. Makes a difference for us.  Cheers us up. Helps us out.

A song (surprised?) that’s been on the radio a lot reminds me of these little things:

Dream small
Don’t bother like you’ve gotta do it all
Just let Jesus use you where you are
One day at a time
Live well
Loving God and others as yourself
Find little ways where only you can help
With His great love
A tiny rock can make a giant fall
Dream small

These simple moments change the world
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with bigger dreams

Keep loving, keep serving
Keep listening, keep learning
Keep praying, keep hoping
Keep seeking, keep searching
Out of these small things and watch them grow bigger
The God who does all things makes oceans from river
So dream small
Dream Small – Josh Wilson

I don’t know what the little thing is you do that maybe feels insignificant and as if it will never matter. For someone you love or a stranger. Don’t quit.  #doitagain.  It matters.  It might be the rock that makes the giant fall. The little things will change the world.  And, when someone you love or a stranger does that little thing for you, be reminded they are fulfilling their piece of changing the world by doing the little thing that is a gift to your life.

The impact isn’t always in a tangible result.
But keeping on in the little moments ends up being significant in the intangible.
And one who’s lost might be found.
So, #doitagain.
