Date Reel: College Station Day Date

We took advantage of a summer Friday and spent the day in College Station after dropping Auggie off for a day at the 4G and Mom’s breakfast before we went on our way.  On the agenda:  George Bush Presidential Library, lunch at Blue Baker, Catalena Hatters, and Golf at Texas A&M Course.

I had never been to the George Bush Presidential Library and visiting has been on my list for a long time. Cody had been, but not in several years. We purchased our tickets ahead of time online and the Library wasn’t crowded at all when we were there.

There was SO much to see and read about the early life of George Bush, his time spent in the Service, early years in West Texas, his political career and his devoted love to Barbara and their family.

The outside grounds were beautiful; statues in honor of President Bush, fishing pond, rose garden, and their gravesites.  The day were were there was very quiet and peaceful to be out on the grounds.

“Let future generations understand the burden and the blessing of freedom.
Let them say we stood where duty required us to stand. “
President George Bush, January 1991

As we were leaving, we saw historic Union Pacific No. 4141 Engine, waiting on the grounds for the expansion that will come in future years – a pavilion around the locomotive and eventually another building with a Marine One helicopter. We’ll definitely have to make a trip back!

We left the Library for lunch at one of Cody’s favorites:  Blue Baker.  Hot sandwich? Always a win!

After lunch we made our way to downtown Bryan and Catalena Hatters – a family owned and operated hat store since 1983.  Cody was getting a new custom hat made and I dropped off a 20 year old white hat to be restored. He picked out his hat, was fitted, and we’ll wait 3ish months for it to be complete.  My hat will be ready end of year.

Last stop was  the Texas A&M Golf Course for a round of golf…in July in Texas.  Were we crazy? Maybe – we had plenty of water and it wasn’t too hot, though.

A fun summer Friday together and we are excited for our hats to be ready for Rodeo 2023!

Blessings,
Angie
