#write31days | October 7

I’m in my car fairly often by myself and I usually take advantage of the drive time to catch up with friends on the phone or using chat apps like HeyTell and Voxer and voice text. I love that time time talking to friends while I’m driving, it is often a much needed catch up. However, just picking my phone up to chat and distract myself from the still and silence is different.  So, lately I’ve been in the car and intentionally put my phone down to turn the radio up.  95% of the time my radio is on XM 63, The Message.

There have been mornings I’ve been driving and paying attention to the radio during my short work commute when a song came on with lyrics of truth that changed the course of my day. So often satan wants to steal our joy starting with the slightest thing that goes wrong in our morning routine and rush to get out the door.  But, Jesus is greater and I can combat the lies with truth, if I am intentional in those minutes between home and work.  If you’ve read here long, or only since October 1st, you’ll quickly learn songs have a huge way of impacting my life.

Sometimes, it’s so hard to be still, and it’s so much easier to entertain distractions.

So, I have to make a conscious decision to #doitagain and put my phone down. To be present and listening for words that can shape the course of my day.

This past week I’ve spent a lot of time in my car, and one morning in particular I intentionally put my phone down to turn up the radio. The song list was like it was perfectly orchestrated for me while I was going to be in my car.  I worshipped, right there in my car while driving down the highway. My frame of mind was changed.  My day was SO much better for it.

A few songs from that morning are favorites,
in case you’re like me and need to have some words of truth sung over you….

You Say | Lauren Daigle
Move. Keep Walking On | Toby Mac
So Will I | Hillsong United
He Still Does (Miracles) | Hawk Nelson
Surrounded (Fight My Battles) | Michael W Smith
Jesus I Believe | Big Daddy Weave
Confidence | Sanctus Real
Strong Enough | Matthew West

Maybe sitting still in the car is hard for you sometimes, too.  Try turning the radio to a Christian station and listening to songs of truth sung over you. It will change your day. Then #doitagain another day.

The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.
Zephaniah 3:17
