Commit 30: June
In case you missed it in January, I’m taking 2017 in 30 day increments (well, sometimes 30, or 31 or 28) and committing to something for 30 days.
June…30 days of Reading!
I love to read, but this year since I have been working on my MBA it seems like I’ve read less and less for “fun reading”. So, I committed to reading every day in June, something that I WANTED to read, not HAVE to read! In case you’ve missed it, I haven’t always loved to read, but have grown to love reading despite selling back a stack of Cliff Notes in college vs actual books I should have been reading….
Summer is my favorite season to read, seems like I can get through books quickly when I’m poolside.
The first book I read in June was Big Little Lies. I picked it up at the library, you can read more about my love of the library here. I struggled through this book for most of it, I didn’t really love the story line, but so many people had recommended this book to me, so I persevered. Definitely not a favorite, wouldn’t really recommend it, but I did finish it and it got a little better at the end.
Of course I did have to do some MBA reading, but I’m easily distracted from that, and Auggie does his best to distract me as well….
Since I was reading every day, I made sure I always had my book with me. If I got caught somewhere that I had to wait (ie: picking up Torchy’s for lunch) I could sit and read for a few minutes while I waited. One True Loves was a book I had seen from several bloggers and I also borrowed it from the library. This was the one I would probably most recommend, a romance, but with a story line that makes you contemplate decisions you would make in extreme circumstances. I’m still not sure I agree with decisions of the characters.
It Ends With Us was another book I found from blog lists and I ended up reading it in one day. I started out by the pool and read about 1/3 of it. This was a quick read, engaging storyline with a little romance, family history of characters that influenced their present life and making choices for their future.
I guess I was sort of hooked on this book, because I stayed up until about 1am to finish it up the same night. Auggie was totally into it….
Mid June I picked up Lisa Harper’s new book at our church Women’s Conference and lots of nights before I turned off my light I read a few pages of The Sacrament of Happy. I am over half way through and have loved how Lisa weaves stories and scriptures in showing character of God and his desire for us to see happy in ourselves and in our relationship with Jesus.
Several friends have recently read Kate Morton books, so I put those up next on my library list and both were ready for pick up on the same day. I have started The Secret Keeper and will definitely keep up my reading in July as I have several road trips and summer days off planned!
Most evenings before bed looked like this…and this is how June 30 ended, couch, a book and my pup.
So, that was my Commit for June.
30 days of Reading.
Now for July.
Spoiler Alert: October will be #write31days.
Yes, I’m already thinking about a topic.
Stay in touch…
Blessings!
